I was wondering what the best way was to put the new sleeves back in my farmall 300 block or should i have the machine shop do it thanks

Well i see a lot of our SLEDGE HAMMER MECHANICS like to block of wood and BMFH now if all you boy would just go out and spend 200 bucks on a good bore gauge and check the sleeve before you start beatting on them and after you got it drove home i think that you would see what i am sayen they will wrinkel they will wrinkel sometimes when ya press them in you may not see it or feel it with your hand but it does happen then you just slap the pistons in you will have tight spots and a rough bore for the rings to chatter on . That is why the factory service manual has the pressure readings for the Hdy sleever puller and installer that way you can see if you are getting the correct fit . Now if any of you ever try and do a 361 or 407 and do not take great care when installing the sleeves it will be a vary expencive learning experance. and this can hold ture even on the C221 -291 D 239 -282 and a couple others .

If they are thin sleeves, I would think twice before the big hammer and block of wood method, beacuse I've been that route...broke two sleeves that way on the same engine, ended up lightly using a three stone hone and diesel fuel and light oil to clean up the cylinders ( didn't take off any metal, but gunk and dirt that wouldn't come out any other way)checking the slip fit down past the half way point before using the wood and hammer method.make dang sure the lip will sit in the groove in the block , it needs to be cleaned with a dental pick and good trouble light.

I've also had good luck with another method,Put the O ring in dry, then cover the bottom of the sleeve with dishsoap. Once you tap it past the inital stretch of the rubber it slides right down.Make sure everything is clean first and use a block of wood as previously stated. JP

These are dry sleeves that use a pressed fit
to hold them in the block. The wet sleeves use
the seal at the bottom of sleeve and are not pressed in. Even though they're hard to remove
if they've installed for a long period of time.

Put them in the feezer over night to shrink them. Put a light bulb lit of course. Into the cylinder to expand it.
Then get a Big F#%&*&g Hammer and bash them in.
Please use a block of wood inbetween the hammer and the sleeve.
For some reason I didnt take photos of that when I did my 300. Here is one from my 706

If there a dry sleeve freeze them overnight first. cant help much with wet sleeves
