Picking up the Farmall B from the mechanic this coming weekend. I'm anxious to see how she runs, it's been about 6 years since it's ran. The old IH shop mechanic did what he calls a complete overhaul. From what I can see from the invoice, here's what he did: 4 cyl kit,rod brngs, main brngs, head gasket, pin bushins, plugs, oil filter, repair distributor, machine/check head, oil gauge, battery, rebuld generator, new cables, voltage regulator. There's a couple of items I can't read but I can make out the part numbers: (1)BK93,(2)VB40,(1)2111081. Can anybody tell me what these are? He said he put new pistons and rings in it, is that generally included in the "4 cyl kit"? Total bill was $1,443? Is that in-line with a "complete overhaul" Did I get a complete overhaul from this description?
Thanks
DJL

If you got all that you cited, including the labor, for $1443, you got a heck of a deal.

I'm in the process of an engine overhaul on my B, and mine would certainly cost more than that if my labor was considered too.

Most of the time an over haul is rings, rods and main bearing. Cylinder honed and a valve job. A rebuild on the other hand is new sleeves, pistons, rod and main bearings cam and a few more things. Sounds like you got a cross between the tow of them. Heres a little bit of a price brake down. An engine kit with out gaskets is around $500 then gaskets around $70 then a valve job $200. So with labor you got off cheap. If he did what he says he did.
