Good thing I am not paying my self by the HR for this.
Got some good news for once. Took my 300 head to the machine shop to get cleaned and fluxed. Turns out that head has had a valve job done on it. Has had all the seats replaced with hardned ones.
he did try to sell me a valve job though. Saying the #2 and #3 cylinders where not seating. I said no, the 706 has got me in the poor house. Poor 300 is always getting the hind teat.
any way I took the head home and removed those valves. I then lapped them. They shined up as nice as can be. look like new ones.
Maybe some things going to go my way.

Took me a hr or so to find my taps, but got them cleaned out.

Then took me another 45 min to find my puller. Then 10 min to find the right bolts. I could have sworn I cleaned this place.

got her mounted to my stand. ewwwww 750 pound max stand. its all she wants. Had to block the front of it, just in case. GOT THAT STINKING CRANK OUT!!!

Are you going to weld and regrind the crank or have you found a replacement one? About ready to start my 756D overhaul, sure hope I have better luck than you have had. The check book can't handle buying high priced german parts,LOL.

Ya wanna come rebuild a 1256 engine, clutch, and TA for room and board?

Back on topic, Kelly, it looks like you're making good progress. I always have that problem with tools as well, they seem to know the perfect time to be "misplaced" or run away and hide!

I'll have to talk to my Dad about it, his loader tractor... Where you located so I can check on flights? Pretty good set of tools, can borrow a set of stands for splitting it. I suppose the cab has to come off too?

I'm hoping to tackle it this summer, but for the price of an airline ticket, a few beers, a bottle of whiskey and room and board - I could probably learn more by watching you! Email if you are serious and I'll see if I can talk my Dad into it... :o)

Let's see here now. Allan- Hydraulics, outside equipment fabrication and repair
Tractor Vet--Anything mechanical, especially red tractors
Kelly- 706 gasser engines.
You guys are on to something here. Ever think of setting up shop?
Probably another reason I don't have a big shiny red and white Farmall. I wouldn't know where to start. The old M's are pretty straight forward. What I wouldn't give for a 1206 with 5 inch chrome stack and full rack of suitcases though. Just set it out by the road, sit on it, and wave to folks. Harley
