do ALL Farmall A's have a thermostat ???? I just bought one and by looking at it, I can't see where it would fit. It does NOT have a water pump.

Yeah, what georgia Boy said, except you need to change the word "thermostat" to "temperature gauge". No A came with a thermostat.

No water pump on a A and the thermostat was a special attachment, it came with the kerosene/distillate package which included a lower water outlet, special manifold, radiator shutters and distillate pistons. The thermostat screws into a plug hole in a lower water outlet. If there is no plug hole there, then your tractor didn't come with that package. You can get a lower water outlet that allows you to add a thermostat, but it isn't worth the effort as the thermostat is useful only when running on distillate with the special manifold and with the shutters operating. Otherwise, it always registers cold. On an A the thermostat was used to know when the engine was hot enough to switch over from gasoline to distillate. If the radiator is in good condition and the water passages are clear an A should not overheat, even without a pump.

Is this an A or Super A? Might even be a 100 or 130. The look pretty much the same. If it does not have hydraulic then it is most likely an A. A's did not come from the factory with a water pump or thermostat. Those items could be added later. Dave.

As shipped from the factory, a Farmall A does not have a water pump or a thermostat.
