I am in the process of replacing the fluids in the transmission, rear end and PTO/belt pulley housings on my B. My manual does tell me the capacities but from the looks of the diagrams they do not appear to be sealed between one another. I am assuming I can fill the fluids from either the plug in the top of the tranmission cover or the plug in the top of the PTO/belt pulley housing and the lubricant will disperse thoughout the assembly. Could someone confirm this? Also, is the plug on the left hand side near the front of the transmission housing, the proper place to check the level of the fluid? It is the only place I can find. I appreciate your input.

You should replace the fluid in the final drives too. They take 1 1/2 quarts I think. You need to take the pans off the bottom of the final drives to drain them. Get new gaskets to put them back together. The level fill for them is the plug in the casting just above the pan. Transmission and differential are all one housing and both get filled from the plug on top of the transmission. With belt pully the transmission should hold 5 quarts total. Along with the 3 quarts total for the final drives you'll need two gallons of 80/90 gear lube. As mentioned before, don't overfill the transmission or it will leak. Their is an oil slinger gear and oil passages in the transmission to distribute the oil. If you have a belt pulley you need to drain it using the small pipe plug at the bottom of that casting and refill it thru the plug on the top of that casting with about 1 cup of the 80/90 so it has lube till the oil from the transmission gets back there. Dave.

Also, when I changed mine I put my finger in the drain hole to see if I could feel any sediment. I was surprosed to find a little bar magnet in there, took it out and cleaned it. It had a few shavings on it, not much.

Fill through the plug on top of the transmission, but I always put a little directly in the PTO just so it isn't dry until the oil gets distributed.

The plug on the left side, almost behind the left brake rod is the fill level. Mine takes about 6 quarts to fill. Don't overfill or you may push the excess out the seals at the differential shafts.

Although you could fill from the belt pulley housing, I think you'll find it's a pretty slow go as you bleed the oil through the bearing.

You have identified the location of the check plug. It seems pretty low to most people.
