My dad has a 71 ford ranger XLt that the front end is basically shot on both spring mounts, power sterring pump mount, pretty much is the frame is falling apart from flaking rust . He was gonna drive it till the thing falls down on the road dead ( no pun intended). I am wondering if the emblems, trim, interior , bumpers etc would be worth much to part out. This truck is in MINT shape except for the iron on the running gear up front. It has a completed rebuilt 360 that is .30 over and ( 3 on the tree) tranny. Can tghis truck be placed on a newer ford 1/2 ton frame?? What do you all think, this is his baby that he has had since '71 and is the oldest daily used truck in the the county so he's a little emotional about it. My Pa is 73.

My dad had this 80s Toyota Truck which he had bought it new back then, and before it was 8 years old it was nothing but rust holes! And here I have this 87 Buick which is almost 19 years old and had only one little spot of minor surface rust that I fixed in half a day. What a differnce in rust protection on them.

Tell you what! I have a 1969 Ford 3/4 ton that the old 360CI did run terrific about 7 yrs ago but we parked it out to our old farm and haven't touched it since. the body is very rough but the undercarriage was great. would you be interested in "adopting" this old girl and putting the two together to become one good one? I for one love old Ford trucks so I think it's worth keeping.

The '67 through '72 Ford trucks had a narrower frame than the '73 and later trucks. For this reason the cab mounts on the '71 will not match up the mounting points on a later frame. You could still do it, but the frame would need some modification.

yes the driveline can be placed in a newer 1/2 ton body but it will take some work. I am in the process of doing this with a 3/4 ton Ford because the frame broke by the gas tank.

Go to a frame shop and ask for help determining which Ford PU vintages will interchange. With that list, find a frame in a wrecking yard and swap them, or a front frame only clip if the rear is sound.
Wire brush the new frame (Or bead blast) and reinforce as needed if there are any iffy spots, then weld it and use ruberized undercoat to protect it for its remaining life. Dads are important.
