how involved, timewise, is it to change the oil seal on the front of the super c crankshaft? christine has developed a major drip after tightening the fan belt. i've never had to change one before. wife is dreading the bill from mechanic. i've had too many $250 charges to replace a $.50 oring or gasket. thanks.

Bill here is a picture of the one I built to remove front pulley on the boy's Super C. You don't need the split bearing separator with this one. I used a porta power instead of hydraulic jack, but I did find a jack that would work laying on it's side.

Here's a web site for using a hydraulic jack to pull your damper pulley. This was designed for a Cub, but could be modified for the Super C. Hal
PS: Cost about $35 to $50 at your local metal shop. Still need to use a split bearing separator
in front of it. I see Leon told you about the timing gear cover bolts. Hal
PS: Chicago-Rawhide has a speedi-sleeve & seal
if your pulley hub is worn from that old seal.

The hub on the damper pulley probably has a groove
caused from the old seal rubbing that area. You're probably looking a least a full day's work
and if you have problems it could be longer.

The hood, grille and radiator needs to be removed
just to reach the damper pulley. The pulley is probably a press fit. Be careful when pulling
the damper it's easy to break the pulley flanges.
Use a split bearing separator and pull from that.

My manual says to remove complete front end assy,
fan assy, governor assy and on Super C's the water pump needs to be removed too. I'm sure I haven't covered everything. You had better take some pictures as you do the teardown so can go back and look at pictures if you get stuck reinstalling everything. Hal
