I thought I would ask the experts. All of my tractors up til now have been case. I have to decide on two farmalls. An M or an MD. Both are good runners. Both bodies and metal are good. I haven't heard them run yet but both are said to run very well. The MD has a better paint job which is pretty nice. The M still has its original paint. The MD is going for $3000 and the M is going for $2500. This is what I think is a pretty fair price for my area. The larger farmalls are hard to find in western NC. Both are narrow front and are 1947 models. Which would you guys choose? I have heard the MDs can be a pain when it comes to the gas start/diesel run system.
Thanks
Joel

I would say that it depends on what you are planning to do with your tractor. If you're planning to use your tractor for quick, ten or fifteen minutes sessions, I would recommend the M. I have an M with a loader for lifting and plowing snow. It starts in all weather and requires very little maintenance.

If your planning to spend more time running, I'd go for the MD. I have an MD for field use (plowing, mowing, raking, baling). It runs strong all day and uses less fuel than an H. All other things equal, I wouldn't trade my MD for anything...there's something really cool about them. Either way you can't go wrong.

The engine was rebuilt 4 years ago with the super M bore.Has the belly pump, new gas tank, rear tires are 75%,fronts have weather cracks and need replaced but don't leak.Has been converted to 12V.Has decent tin but not perfect, this is a very strong running tractor.I have used it to pull a 10' moco. All it needs is paint.I will e-mail you a pic if you would like.

Get the MD and after you do post the serial number for it on here. Just curious to how close the number would be to my 47 MD

Not nearly MD's as gas M's I think it was about 18,000 or so over the course of the non-super line. If I am incorrect somebody please correct me.

Get the MD it is a very nice tractor and a little less common to see in cerculation any more and that kind of price in that shape is pretty fair price around here, we have four of them gas start diesels around here and would not give a one of them up eather. yes they can be a pain if not taken care of proprly, always let them warm up before you work them and let them cool off before you shut them off and you are good to go. the gasers are a very nice tractor to thou, we have 3 of them here.

I have an MD that we redid from the ground up the engine is very expensive to rebuild but the end result was well worth it. If you want to see it go to the pictures and look up Farmall MD pulling tractor.
