Never seen this type. What is it some kind of bimetal wear your fly wheel out kind?
Hows the fly wheel look? Pads wore out? like I said never seen this kind.

Others have pretty much told you what, etc. The flywheel needs to be cut if you are going to put in a new clutch disk; I’m guessing the pressure plate will need to be cut too. As far as the disk, I’d check it against a new one to see how much it is worn.

Personally, I hate the dyna-life or “button” clutches because they are grabby and very hard on flywheel and pressure plates if you do a lot of clutching. If you don’t do a lot of clutching, (only long steady pulls in the field) then they will outlast an organic one.

BTW if you decide to go back with the “button” style like you have, I’ve heard that taking a cutoff wheel and grinding an “X” in the pads will help them release better and not be so grabby. I’d check with more people before I’d do that one my self though…

Had one of those kind in our 544 w/loader. Grabby and not real accurate with the loader trying to move only an inch at a time. Ate up the flywheel too, cost us a pretty penny for a decent 544 flywheel... Replaced with plain old organic clutch similar to H and M.

If you are going to pull heavy loads, go with that type again. If you are going to use it for light loads or loader work where you need to slip the clutch a little, get the full face organic. -- Just my opinions, but the less grabby clutch made a decent loader tractor out of our 544.

What do think of the fly wheel? Looks like a pretty deep goove.

I am going to use this one for Haying and loader work. Maybe occasinal plowing and disking.
Maybe I should put in the fibre type disk?

Looks normal to me and the ware is normal now chek the two input shafts more on the outside one then the inside one as the outside drives the PTO and hdy. pumps . If your going to change it replace with the same that is a standard 4 pad disc and with a standard pressure plate. and have the flywheel GROUND not turned on a lathe as lathe turning leave small groves and that will eat the disc faster . And lathe turning does not get ride of the hard spots and that is what makes the pad clutches more jumpy.

I would take the flywheel to a machine shop to be measured. There is a specific limit on wear.

We figured out why the 544 was getting jumpier toward the end of the clutch life -- the flywheel was worn so badly that the bolts holding it on were catching on the inner part of the clutch disk!

Sounds like for what you are going to use it for, put the full face fiber disk in it. I would rather pay for the replacement clutch disk than what that flywheel cost us on the 544!

Either way the flywheel is going to have to be resurfaced. As for what type of disc to use, the cermaic is going to last longer under high power conditions, but a 263 is not a high power engine. If you treat it good I think an organic would work fine for what you want to do with the tractor and as I think it was you who made the comment that the 706 looks like it was desighned to be split so you could always easilly replace the clutch in the future if needed.

Thats a ceramic pad type clutch. All 06 series tractors on up used them. IH called them a dyna-life clutch. All force is on the small ceramic pads that have very high heat resitance, much higher horsepower holding than an organic disc.

Kelly That is the dyno for a 656 in it they would over a year out of the clutchlife the IH game with in the first 706 806 and after. A very good clutch but you can't let them slip. The town where I worked had a 460 U for snow and other work. The clutch that came with it would only last about 6 months, when we put the dynolife for a 656 in it they would get over a year, but then we would have to turn the flywheel, and put in new pressure plate.

I have one quite similar to that in my old pickup . It's got a pretty hot engine in it and with that puck style clutch ( $$$ ) it does NOT slip . I don't think it would be good for fine loader work but I don't KNOW this for fact . The semi's I drive have them too . Very good holding power over organic . ...Randy
