I live here in Central, NY and our winters usually last until April And usually our last frost around May 15th or so. I would say that the robins show up around mid to end of march and the starlings and bluebirds usually in April. But this year there was Robins here last week There was a male blue bird out singing for a mate this morning and two starlings trying to make a nest in a hole in a nest box thats way to small for them. They also said on the news that the deer and animals didn't fatten up this year in the fall like usual. Meaning they may know of a short lite winter. I admit it has been warmer than usual this year but this seems a little OD to me

One old Native North American that I once new used to always predict the severity of the upcoming winter based ob the size of the white man's woodpile.

Forget about global warming. God says we will have the spring, summer, fall and winter seasons for harvest till he comes again. I have noticed the birds have been out singing earlier than usual this year in Georgia. In January? Just plain weird. I"d noticed song birds out this way that one wouldn"t spec to here until April. If it gets cold again, they may not be singing for long. Just my two cents.

Well if it's "Global Warming", then how is it that we are warm and the Russians are freezing? Give me a break.

George Bush had Halliburton speed up the rotation of the earth when Asia was toward the sun and slow down the rotation when our side was
toward the sun.

The weather in Central Minnesota is also warmer than normal (by about 20 degrees) we have had almost every day of Jan. above freezing in the daytime.
My Frost tollerant irus are comming out of the roots about 1-1/2" of leaf. Two signs of global warming are wierd changes in weather patterns, and modest changes in temperature globally. Ice in glaciers is dissappearing at an alarming rate. We are warm, however Russia is in a deep freeze (even in the southern areas).
I'm convinced.

Jim , Maybe that's true but it's been thousands of years in the coming . I can't believe that 100 years of technology out of millenia has ruined the earth . The earth goes through changes naturally so why do we have to blame ourselves for what's happening ? Could it be coincidence ? ...Randy

Randy, I agree with you -- other than the localized smog in the larger cities that is caused by exhaust emissions, I don't think man can do a thing to control the weather, long term or short term. If there is global warming, a hole in the ozone layer, whatever, there is not a thing we can do about it. Problem with the people that make the measurments is that there is no benchmark to compare, the records simply do not go back far enough.

The record is in bubbles of air trapped in ice (from Greenland and Antartica). There is clear relationships between temp change and amount of CO2. I teach 363 resource management (and other environmental classes at SCSU. Between 1850 and now there is almost 60% more CO2 in the atmosphere. It can be wierd to think that humans can change Earth but we can. All the limestone coal nat gas and petroleum contains carbon that was stored there by animals/plants. When we burn them, we put the carbon back into the air.

Ozone holes have nothing to do with global warming, just a reduction in our radiation shield from the Sun. JimN

Hi Jim , I have read about that and I agree with your first paragragh but need to add that the reduction in global plant life is also a factor . But I still maintain that our technology hasn't had a major impact on the weather in the last 100 years . There was more smoke and ash from Mt. St. Helens than there was smog from Los Angeles and Detroit from 1935 to 1990 . Of course these numbers are my own and aren't backed by science because I don't have government grant money . My point is that just because the gov issues a group a lot of money that what they have to say is taken seriously no matter what their qualifications . You know as well as anyone the statistics can be made to qualify anything the statistition wants them to . Greenpiece was the best at screwing up the truth . We , as a nation , believe what we want to and that doesn't always mean that we believe the truth . The issue of the environment is more emotional than intellectual . JMHO ...Randy

I didn't intend to imply that the ozone hole was related to global warming. And, 1850 is really not very far to go back to. My point is that the earth has been here for millions of years, and that there is only a vague idea what went on before the earth was heavily populated. The projected global warming is based on scientists interpretation of a model. Models aren't always correct. At one time we had an ice age, dinosaurs were killed off for whatever reason. I'm not saying global warming isn't happening now, as it can be measured. And, it may not be all bad. In the U.S. crops such as cotton and grain sorghum could be shifted further north -- the corn belt will move north. And, if I live long enough (doubtful), maybe I won't get as cold in the winter. Yes, southern Louisiana/New Orleans and other coastal areas will be under water -- something else to think about before spending billions of dollars to rebuild a city that is already below sea level.

Good points.
The Air Bubble data goes back Hundreds of thousands of years. And is consistant in its relationship with global temps. Fun stuff, and exciting times.
