I'd like to put a quickhitch on the 400 this spring. I've been thinking, and it seems to me, that the hitch off of a ute, if it will bolt up to the 400, should give me a little extra lift height, due to the ute version having to provide as much lift height with a smaller rear tire. But at the same time I'd like one like on the 300 we had. It had an arm that bolted to the corner of the platform and the cylinder lifted that arm, which connected to another arm and a rocker shaft under the pto to the right side with a arm over there to lift that side and a vertical crank for leveling. I don't know if that type is available for the 400, but I liked it because there was no slop in it. This is probably one of those things I'll never really resolve. A freind and I are going to the ihc club winter convention as it's only about an hour and half away. If that's interesting enough I may throw the narrow front on the SM and talk him into hauling it down to rpru with his 560 puller. And if I can't, I'll just be there wandering around myself.

Scott, I've got one I would sell you from a 400D. Probably too far away though.

Well, looks like maybe I will get that one resolved then. I liked the one on the 300 because a few people when asked about the q/h versus 3 pt conversion complained about slop in the q/h but we never had any problem with slop on the 300's. I kind of wish we had put my H through the sale instead of that 300, but, oh well, about 7 months too late now.And I wasn't even sure if they had built a ute 400 size tractor or not, really.

scotc: The only hitch that will be identical to what you had on the 300, and will fit the 400 is a Farmall 400 fast hitch. The utilities of that era, namely 300, 350. 330, 340 and 460 were all small chassis tractors and those hiches will bolt up to the Farmalls that have those same model numbers. Even many of these changes would require some modification.

The only hitches that will bolt up to your 400 are 400, 450 and 560. As there were no utilities of those models, there are no utility hitches that will fit your tractor without a lot of modifications.

The type of fast hitch you are discribing with the one arm that bolts the corner of the platform was the type used on 400's. The other type with the shaft going accross the back on top of the pto was for 450-560. If you can find one it would be the "correct" one.
