Thanks guys, I looked off to the left at the info, but wasn't sure if I was reading it right ( as to what year). This tractor has a Farmhand loader and dirt bucket and is in pretty good shape. It is heading for the auction block in Feb. How many horsepower would you say it has ?? Thanks again, Todd

I show it as a 1950, serial numbers for that year went from 213579 to 247517 for the M, MD, MDV, and the MV tractors.

IHnut...you're the man! You're right. I HAVE to get these glasses checked. I left out a digit. Sorry, toddbo...I was wrong; looked too fast. Good News! Your tractor is 10 years younger than originally reported.

FBK is the serial prefix designation for the M. FBH is the H; FAA, A/Super A; FAB, B; FC, C/Super C, etc.

CNKS...do you have any idea what the three letters, F-B-K, actually stand for? Like Furry Brown Kitten or Foolish But Knowledgeable or Fine Buttery Kohlrabi or something like that?
;-) I'm sure International had some method, but I just don't know what it is.

I'm not sure IH had any method at all, but:
F= Farmall for sure- there is documentation of that.
B- Probably the the larger, straightline chassis or possibly wheelbase. H had the same wheelbase as the M to share implements, they do share the second letter.
K= size. They wouldn't have called the tractor a K, since that's how they previously had designated Kerosene in some early models.

I'm not in the same class as Guy Fay -- most of my answers to similar questions are from his information -- usually I give him credit, if any of us mess up too bad he corrects us, as he should. I think only the people at IH knows the reason for the B and K, etc. Some of their codes are self explanatory, some aren't.

Guy...an honor to meet you. See? I've always said, go to a writer when you need an answer. (Of course, only an old copywriter would say that!) Not that CNKS didn't know it; he might just have been slower on the trigger. Toddbo, you're in the presence of two experts on Red: CNKS and Guy Fay. You're in good hands. Thanks, you guys, for the great information.

Toddbo...according to my "Serial Number Guide," your tractor is a 1940 model. I don't know what the FBK stands for, but I'm sure someone here knows. Serial number info can be found on this site to the left screen under "Research & Info," Serial Numbers.
