i have my m apart because the throw out bearing was froze. well when i got into it i found out the throw out bearing sleeve was actually twisted a bit so i got a new one. also found that the input shaft had lost a yoke bolt because someone before me put a regular bold in the tapered fit bolts place and it finally gave way so i was missing a yoke bolt. i went and got a new bolt and all new rubber washers and a lock washer. well i got it all back together just how it should and it has quite a bit of play in it. i tightened it down as tight as i could with an impact and everything but still seems sloppy. im not sure if there is supposed to be alot of play in it or not but it is kind of worrying me because i am doing a major overhaul on this tractor and i dotn want to have to tear it down twice. thanks alot!

Do you mean the shaft itself has play on the transmission bearings, that the bolt has play in its hole in the yoke, or that the yoke itself has play? Technically, there really shouldn't be much play anywhere in there. The bolts should be tight in their holes in the yoke. And by tight I mean very tight!! After we got the nuts off of the bolts on our W6, we had to use long prybars and hammers to separate the coupler, as it did not want to come loose. If the shaft is wobbling, transmission bearings are weak and/or shot. If the coupler never gets tight, It is possible it is binding somewhere on the bolts or there is a burr in one of the bolt holes. We really had to crank on those bolts to get them to pull the coupler back together(because of the interference fit). We didn't have an impact so we did it with long breaker bars.

the actual shaft seems good. the shaft on the outside is strait and is good. i put a level on it and its perfect. the inner shaft that goes to the trans is great shape too. no a bit of play in that. and i dont really mean there is a ton of play in the yoke. its just it has some movement in it. but i didnt know if it was supposed to. i took out all the bolts that hold it on and they are good but i cleaned them with a thread cleaner and put them back on. i used a 1/2 inpact and then torqued them as tight as i could with a 1/2 inch wrench and a pry bar on it and it doesnt really help much. so maybe the yoke itself is defective. honestly i havent ever torn into one of these so im just going by what it looks like now. i dont really know how its supposed to look. thanks!
