Can anyone help me to identify what type of tractor I have? The plate near the steering box is identified with the # 198856 J . The engine # on the left side down below the carb. is 251341R7.

From your description, I would say CNKS has it right. The R7 number is the part number of a Cub engine block.

I would expect your tractor to look like this. Follow the link for more information on Cubs.

Is this a small offset tractor with a flathead 4 cylinder engine? If so the serial you gave indicates it is a 1957 Cub, as you said "plate" near steering box. If not, do as Hugh and El Toro say.

Bri: Those numbers you've given us are casting part numbers. Unless someone knows them offhand it would take some time searching. Can you give us serial numbers, most IH serials numbers are on left side of clutch housing or near seat. IH serial tags are always a metal plate 2" x 4" and rivited in place. Use descriptions like tire size front and rear, gas or diesel, how many speed transmission, narrow front or wide, do you mount tractor from back or in front of rear tire. Anything you can see unique about this tractor.

Secondly go to photo gallery, see if you can find a similar tractor. All these things will help. I guarentee, you give us enough info and this group will not fail you.

You need to look below No1 sparkplug for a SN should be stenciled into the block. That number with the R7 is a casting number. Hal
