farmall 706 duel speed pto

the metal block at the bottom of the pto control lever that connects to shaft that goes into the pto housing was loose ( free turning on shaft )
unscrewed enough that the pto would turn in the full off possition.
i replaced the seal and o-ring ( external leaking ... not really related to this problem, just goes to show you what you find when ya start lookin)

if i screw the shaft all the way into the block it runs into the shaft going thru the block(binding)

if i back it off a little the pto lever is stiff disengaging the pto. i backed it off a couple turns and locktited it. still not as free as it was .... but it was falling apart before .....

what is the proper adjustment for the block/shaft?
cant find it in my book .....

lock-nut ,.... hmmm don't remember 1 of them
mabey that's why it was comming unglued

lever assy back together like it was before
the stiffness is mainly in the over center action / going into - out of locked in
just wear in the bushings?

don't think the stem is bent, it moves freely up until the overcenter pos

don't have the test stuff
got a ruff estimate measure of end of threads on the stem to the block?

thank tris

Needed special fitting to get it set and then the gauge with a hose to fit the fitting and the gauge ya might be able to barrow one from a I H dealer or slip one of the mechanic a couple bucks to come out with it and do it after hours. Here again if ya was close i could do it for ya .

Well if you had the mounting bracket off then you do not have it centered correctly and you have thing sorta out of wack , if the valve stem is not moving up and down smothely then it is bent and will need replaced as far as adjustment you need the special fitting to go into the test port and a gauge that will read up to 600 lbs and you screw the stem into the square block till you get a reading of around 235 to 265 this is higher then the book calls for on a 706 but i set them that way so you don't end up slipping the clutch pack now if you can not get it up high enough then you must raise the mounting bracket a bit on the two mounting bolts that go thru the pto assy. and readjust the stem after you have it set then lock the lock nut and you should be good to go . one other thing the hdy fluid temp should be up to operaing temp before making the setting as it will go down as the oil get hot .
