Hello there, we"ve had our Grandpa"s old M stuck in our shop for the last 5 or 6 years just sitting there waiting for attention, all it really needed was a little assembling, a new tube, and the throttle linkage connected, and it should have been ready to go, so we pulled it out today and tried pull-starting it, but with no go. So my dad messed around with it awhile, and finally found that there"s no spark in the distributor. We replaced the condenser and the point and we still had no spark. There"s juice up to the distributor, but that"s it. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks,

Josh

Make sure you have battery voltage at the coil (6v or 12v). If not, your switch could be bad.

You need to pull the coil wire from the distributor cap and hold it within 1/4" of a good ground. Then have someone to crank the engine with the ignition switch on. Should get a nice hot blue spark. You need to make sure you have battery voltage at the coil. Is this still the 6 volt system or has it been converted to 12 volts? Make sure there's no corrosion on those coil wire ends or in the coil opening. If you have a new coil wire I would use it or one that you know is good. If voltage is good at coil and you don't have any spark the coil may weak. If this battery is using positive ground the wire from the coil to the distributor has to connected
to + postitive terminal on the coil. Hal

This is still the 6 volt system, and we used a different coil from an M that does run. Sounds like to me everything is the same as how you described.

You still need to check the coil for fire as I described earlier. Use a volt meter & measure the
voltage at the coil with the ignition switch on.
Should be a least 6 volts or better. Measure this voltage when cranking the engine too. Hal

Take a screwdriver and manually open the point a little, but dont touch anything else as the spark will ground, make sure the switch is on.If you have spark there, then its proably in thecap or wires.
