Question about sprawling out the Wide Front... All

Howdy all,

I was curious how you got your WF to spread out without using the sparkle wrench all over the freshly painted axle tube. I have been threatening to widen out my 560G one hole for over a year now, but I don't want to scar up the paint too bad.

I broke a "knee" once on our 856D and I was a full day, 12 cans of panther urine and a full bottle of Actetylene getting it to break loose in the axle tube. It had been in the same position since 1969. Once it finally turned in the tube, I was only another half a day getting it to slide out...

So, Magic Wide Front Wideners, how do I do this without ruining my paint job???

Thanks,

Bill Latchford

It isn't possible. Just scuff or sand it, mask nearby parts off and repaint it. If you are lucky enough to be able to move it easily, you can paint the bolts and bare area on the axle ends with a brush.

Lordy! I sure like looking at red tractors.
I have an A that had the extensions frozen solid in the tubes. It took an acetylene torch and a sledge hammer to knock them out. That's my only experience.

WOW!

Now that, Ladies and Gentlemen, is a 560!!! Whooeeee! What a sharp tractor!

Bill,

I just am not a big believer in the hot wrench; never have been. I just don't like what it does to metal, and especially on a tractor.

I've moved a lot of stuck ones, have used two tractors tied at opposite sides, porta powers, jacks, panther pi$$, hammers, power chisels and everything else I could think of.

But, this is the worst stuck tie rod I'd ever seen. Fought it all one day and 3 hours of another; so, don't kid yerself, I finally put the torch to 'er. :>(

Someday, I'll have to clean this mess up.

Allan
