Well first off i have never ever use any sealant except on the sediment bowl to the tank on a fuel system , if you have a fuel leak then there is a problem and you must address the problem and just what tractor we working on here . Does it have the compression fittings that requier the rubber grometts or is it a flair alot of time the leaks are caused from over tighting and can crack or flatten out the ends . Or are we working with the bandjo where it has two flat copper washers.

560 D I don't have a leak I know of I am replacing the rubber line that somebody used cause the diesel fuel ruined it. I took the sediment bowl off to clean it all up and just wanted to use something so I would'nt have any leaks. It is also 1/4 inch pipe thread coming out of the sediment bowl and going into the filters. Thanks Ronald

At those points a littel liquid teflon used sparingly would be fine or some of that other stuff that they came out with i had a Cat field mechanic give me some of that stuff and it worked well . It was for Hdy and fuel i used it on hdy fittings .

With all due respect to Rusty, stay away from teflon tape. A person tends to over-tighten with it, and in my opinion works like crap.

There is only one sealant - RectorSeal #5

Works for gas, diesel, propane, water, etc. Up to 3 inch I believe. Doesn't harden with age, and you don't have to tighten near as much as the other products.

Not a problem, I knew there was something better, just couldn't think of it at the time.

Kind of a touchy subject I think. If I was going to use anything it would probably be the teflon tape or something similar, but even that stuff can get into the fuel system and cause major problems. You might want to look into replacing the leaking fittings and lines with new.

Don't use teflon tape. There's too much of a chance of a sliver of it being cut off by the threads & ending up loose inside the fitting. Don't remember where I heard it, but understand some jurisdictions prohibit the use of teflon tape on residential gas plumbing for that very reason. On top of that, I split a fitting one time because the teflon tape was so slippery I couldn't tell when it was tight enough & just kept turning it until the tapered threads wedged the fitting apart.

I like Teflon paste as a lubricant, but with tapered pipe threads, it is not a sealant, it is just a lubricant.

And you don't need very much. 90% of what most folks put on winds up outside or inside the joint. It does not help there.
