I FIGURED JAY WOULD GET A KICK OUT OF MY RESPONSE. YOU GUYS ARE HERE HELPING PEOPLE ALL THE TIME AND LOTS OF TIMES SAVING SOME PEOPLE MONEY. I PERSONALLY FEEL VERY FORTUNATE THAT THIS SITE IS HERE AND I THINK THAT JAY'S AUCTION IS THE MOST INGENIOUS WAY THIS COULD HAVE BEEN HANDLED. READING OTHER POSTS ABOUT THIS SITUATION, I HAVE TO AGREE WITH HUGH THAT EBAY REALLY WON'T BE ABLE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

Thank You Bob.
I didn"t know these diagrams existed. I have been following this subject for a couple of days. After seeing the link, I downloaded them, even though I don"t own the appropriate tractors. To collect that Fish dinner, let me know when you will be in Mid Michigan, and I"ll treat you.

By the way, excellent quality diagrams. Gene

Way to go Jay! I have never had the need to use Bob M's diagrams but I have looked at a couple of them just to see what they were like. First class work. I hope that the individual that was selling these diagrams can now "see the big picture".

He sold I think 4 alltogether. Anywhere from $12 to $25, so he made enough on them. Those other 3 or 4 that didn't sell, he ended those auctions early after I put up Bob's auction.

I'm quite surprised I didn't get a nasty email from him.

I'd say that he doesn't want to take this too far, considering that any investigation will show that he copied them from another website. And that could get him in trouble with ebay. at least that's my half a penny's worth.

I have it on very good authority that (I quote) "Today's copyright laws cover "creative works" automatically, without filing any paperwork. Of course paperwork provides additional coverage." (end quote)

He may have been worried about this.

Jay: I just read Bob"s responce. Let me assure you it sounds like the true gentleman my wife and I met last summer in Rochester NY. We had lunch with Bob and his wife Glenda, truly an unforgetable experience.

Jay - You are indeed correct about copywright protection! I learned this the other night from one of my daughters who is a commercial artist (she has had a couple occasions where her work was copied then reproduced illegally for profit).

Also an attorney friend - a rabid Allis-Chalmers collector who looks down on my IHC stuff, but otherwise is a decent guy - shared a similar opinion around copywright protection.

---

Bottom line here is while the Ebay auction twisted my tail a bit and caused me some minor annoyance, it certainly never caused me "financial harm". Rather I suspect the potential illegal profit by this clown at my expense probably wouldn't cover the price of a fish fry and pitcher of beer at the local tavern for my wife and me. I.e. it's not a big deal.

And on the positive side, over the past 6 or 7 years I have benefited beyond my wildest imagination from the collective wisdom shared by the good people on this board. It's only appropriate I "give something back" by sharing my diagrams free of charge with the like-minded folks here.

And....with the hit counter on my diagrams page now approaching 200,000 views, it appears this goal is being accomplished. That's reward enough for me! ...Bob M
