My recently purchased cub 154 jumps out of 1st and 3rd. It stays in R and 2nd just fine. Can someone give me an idea of what the problem is, so I don't go in blind. I've never had to mess with the transmissions in any of my tractors yet, so any advice would be great. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the ball on the end of the shifter is bent and is not pushing the forks far enough to completely engage the gears in first and third. If the gears haven't already worn, straightening the shifter ball should fix it. Likely happened by someone trying to force it into gear at some time in the past.

The first best info. is to buy a repair manual, Binders Books, Here on YT (to the left).
Some believe an IT manual is also bennificial.
Ebay also often has manuals for bid.
If it jumps out of gear, there may be one of four probable issues (or combination of them).
The detent balls in the shift mechanism are rusted stuck, broken worn.
The shift forks on the sliding gears have been abused/bent.
The gears have been abused and are toast.
The bearings are loose/shot holding shafts in place, allowing gears to wander away from mesh.

Only the first two are kinda easy. the remainder require major dissembly Photo everything as you go!!!
