I will withhold my conjecture until such time as Puxatauny Phil has had a chance to offer his input. I"m told that he is compiling all relevant data to that end as we speak. So we may make observations as laymen on the subject, but it would be premature to make predictions without benefit of the findings of the world"s foremost aficinado.

Red: Willie's advice on how to vote may be better than most. Perhaps we should be voting for Willie, at least he wouldn't be in our face all the time.

Ya know Hugh, the more I think about your suggestion, the better it sounds (like the girls at the hotel get real attractive near closing time...). Certainly appeals to be a dam- lot better than voting for that Brylcream Harper!!!!! !.QR

Huh?
I must live in the wrong part of Ontario, yesterday we got about 5" of that white fluffy stuff to add to what we got last Thursday and Saturday.
Maybe you should trailer that A up here and give it a real test? Yesterday the snowmobiles were using the road by my place as the snowplow never came around until 3PM.

It"s definately warmer than normal. I saw a guy out disking cornstalks here in central Iowa last night. It"s amazing, considering at some of these construction sites I deliver to, we get stuck in out trucks. The only snow we have left is in ditches and under trees, but not much.

Mitch: May I remind you we've already had a fair bit of winter here in SW ON, and it could come back with a vengence. We had some quite nasty temps in Dec, by Christmas Eve I had enough snow piled up along my drivway, I wondered if the little tractor would keep the driveway open all winter. I had it 20' wide at that point. 20' doesn't last long when those winds off Lake Huron blow in.

This is just a Jan. thaw all be it 7 days of it occured in Dec. If we can get it to last until 7 days into Feb, we will be quite lucky. That is 4 weeks away and a lot can happen in 4 weeks.

But remember even after the first week of Feb., we still have the potential for 6 more weeks of winter. That gives us the possibility of 10 more weeks of winter. Don't put your snow blade or blower away just yet.

Very true, Hugh. I remember one year attending the London Farm show, the next morning, upon looking outside, I was greeted by about 10 inches ( 25 cm for the correct police) of wet snow. The roads soon cleared and away we went, eastbound. As we got near Cornwall, the road was closed. All sideroads were in worse shape. Stayed in Cornwall for a day and a half. When I got home, the snowbanks were everywhere, milk tank had overflowed, etc. The lads in charge were sure glad to see me!!!! (must have been Boss appreciation day or something....) QR

No snow in Flagstaff, AZ yet this year either. Ski resort is a huge income for the area and they are suffering this year. Haven't even got a dusting that's hung on for more than a couple days.

The part of AZ I'm in rarely even sees a freezing night. Been in the 70's for about a week, supposed to be in the 60's the next few days. Love driving the del Sol topless on the way home from work!

Mitch, I didn't buy trail permits and insurance for the sleds and I'm darn glad I didn't. Maybe other than snowmobiling I am starting to show my age but when I don't have to blow snow for an hour everyday to clean up the yard and I don't have to put that fuel through the tractor I'm thinking this weather is OK. I also am counting the $ I don't spend on heating the farmhouse as well as our house in town. Incidentally we burn wood at home and three days ago they filled our tank..We've only used $129 worth of heating oil from September until now, I have lots of wood and am hoping to stay warm for the entire winter for less than $500. Weather isn't good for the cattle, barn gets damp almost foggy in the morning when I go in, got doors and windows open to keep it vented and cooler ,but -5*C or colder would be better..I guess I can't have it all ways..Nice looking M Mitch...take care...Mike in Exeter Ontario

Yup, the northern part of the state also relies on snowmobilers during the winter so this is hurting them.

I've always felt the winter is what you make of it, and if your going to live in the north then you might as well enjoy it..

Mike, I think nearly all ski resorts here in New England could operate without natural snow. They make it on a high percentage of their slopes. Any bare spots not covered are groomed with Sno-Cats. Anyway, we have had regular but small to medium natural accumulations since the start of the season. I don't think anyone is complaining. Warm daytime temps are no real concern. It is replaced at night.

Hey Dick, where ya at in southwest Iowa? I was born and raised outside of Oakland, and my folks still live on the farm there. Live outside of Springfield, Mo now. No snow here, and 50-60 degrees here all winter. Harley

Not much sign of winter in SW Manitoba, either. Fields are pretty much bare. Woke up to 34 F. doesn't usually happen in Jan.
