Cant get the thing off. Im using a bearing plate/seperator and puller. The old one came off hard but this one will not budge. I have tightened the puller to the point of bending the bolts in the seperator, a snap-on, hardened seperator. I have heated the pully to red hot and beat, spit, cursed and cryed, this sucker just will not part ways. Any idead before I get the porta band or cutting torch out? This was a new pully I put on that I got off this site, no set screw or big secrets here. Anyone ever tried to get off one these new pullys before? By the way IH gave me the wrong front seal, thats why the leak.

Ready to haul it to a cliff and watch it go away.

Been there done that. The cost of a new one ain't bad. Cutoff wheel on a die grinder would be my vote.

Was it hot when you were pulling on it hard? If so it may have gaulded together. By gaulding I mean iron was hot enough to start slipping or rolling off of the shaft or inside of pulley. If this did happen you have a problem. Its like the two are welded together and only way to remove is to cut it off. When ever heat is used to loosen stuck parts they should always be cooled before trying to force them apart or gaulding will be a possiblity. Just my thoughts.

If you used a torch on the crankshaft you probably ruined the all the crankshaft and rod bearings.

Hi Scott, I think you need a puller like this that was designed for the Cub. The center cut may needsto a little wider. Here's the web site for the puller using a hydraulic jack or a ram. Hal
PS: If you have a torch & drill press you can make it yourself. Be sure to use that split bearing separator behind the pulley.

With the pulley under strain, and hot as a firecracker Cool down the crank snout with cool water (this may require a socket like tool with a hole in it to get the water in. The last one I removed was with a 60 ton press with the crank out of the engine. Be sure to push on the snout with your rig. if not you are trying to lifting yourself with your boot straps, (I know you know this)

I had a devil of a time getting the pulley off my A with what I had and had to buy some heavy duty tools. I got these from cartools.com and the pulley came right off. The pulley attachment goes behind the pulley, not in the groove. I heated the pulley with a propane torch before I started pulling.

Oh I've got some HEAVY DUTY TOOLS NOW. I was cranking on that thing with a 3/4" drive, 3 foot ratchet, using oxy/act and beating the head of a 10 ton puller with a 6 pound no bounce sledge. This new pully (that I just put on a month ago) just isn't being too friendly. Looks like its time to just blow it off of there. Sure do hate to trash a brand new pully though. Wonder what temperature bearings melt at? Hadn't bargained for all this crap. Many Thanks to IH and aftermarket junk. LAST CALL FOR ANY OTHER IDEAS GUYS!

scott, After I sweated and cursed through removal of the last pulley, I vowed not to go through that again. I brought it into work and buffed the bore slightly. I also put two set screws over the keyway. Brought it home, lightly tapped it on and tightened the setscrews :")

No real words of wisdom but lots of sympathy. How dissapointing to think you were done and now to have this! I would spray as much LiquidWrench in there as I could and let it soak overnight. Then I would tap on it with a medium ball peen hammer for about 30 minutes getting all the way around the pully hub by turning the engine periodiacally. Then I would heat it some and pull like h*## with the puller. I've seen guys use an impact wrench on their puller though I've never tried that. I would be concerned about putting too much heat on the bearings. Others would be a better judge of if you have damaged them. GOOD LUCK. Dave.
