Farmall C serial Number

I have a Farmall C that I inherited. We thought it was Super C (it has Super C decals) The serial # plate is missing. But thanks to info I got from this site I found several cating codes
(all have R at the end) and the engine number is
10177. That would make it an early '48. Is the engine # the same as the tractor serial
number? If not is there any way to find out what the serial number on the plate would have been?

Both C and Super C had live hydraulics if you can call it that. Touch Controll is the correct name. Engine and Tractor serial numbers do not match as far as I can tell. Don't know if there is a corolation or not. Dave.

The pedals are straight except for the last bit at the bottom. This tractor also has live hydraulics, which I don't think the C had but I think it was common to upgrade them. One thing that has me a bit puzzled is that (from what I know) the engine # (10177) would be about a February '48 manufacture, But the casting codes on the major components are later than that. The trans cover plate (the big plate where your feet go when you're sitting on the tractor) is 2-13-R, but the transmission case is 7-23-R and the diff case is 8-20-R, left rear wheel is 4-22-R and right rear wheel is 4-6-R
so it all points to being a '48 but would the engine be the earliest part made? because obviously if the diff case is stamped 8-20-R then the tractor couldn't have been sold prior to August.

Are the brake pedals straight (C) or curved (SC)?
Does it have band brakes (C) or disc brakes (SC)?

The "R" casting code would suggest 1948 which would make it a C with a serial number of 22623 or below. The Super C didn't come out until 1951. The C has a C-113 engine. If someone changed the engine to a C-123, that would make it basically the same as a Super C.

The two serial numbers may not match exactly but would most likely be within a couple of numbers of each other. The big exception to this would be if the engine had been replaced somewhere along the line. The casting code and serial numbers both indicate a 1948. With the serial # plate missing the engine serial number is the closest that you are going to get. I have the serial # plates for both of my C's but they are un-readable so I am just going by the engine serial #.
