with the invention of the present day auto type seals is there any reason to install those felt rings in the axle cap on an h farmall?

Many of the felt seals are dust seals -- they help keep the dust away from the new seal, personally I would use them.

CNKS, Paul thanks for the response i have the ones that come out. Cleaned them with quick dry brake cleaner they look like new so guess ill stick them back in. like i said just wondering!!

Terry, The automotive type neoprene seals have replaced the old rawhide and felt seals, and there is no reason for the felt rings as explained to me by the parts mgr at the local IH dealership.
