I recently purchased my first tractor; a Farmall Tractor. The tractor runs great, but I have several questions.

The decal on the hood says it is a Super C. The Serial number tag (on the support to the seat) says the model is a FC. I do not see FC listed on anything related to manuals as a model.

I am confussed.

Is the model a Super C or FC?
How can I tell or find out, what the horsepower is?

Sounds like you have a Super C, which is the upgraded version of the C. I has more horse power than the straight C. A few items to check to easily tell what you have. 1)super C's have curved brake and clutch pedals, C's are straight. 2)Super C should have a water pump which runs off the fan belt, C's do not usually have water pump from the factory. 3) Super C's have a taller radiator and thus the grill is taller and the hood is up higher and so their is a gap(2" or so) between the hydraulic resivour and the bottom of the gas tank, the C's gas tank fits close to the resivour. Since the tractor is more than fifty years old many modifications may have been made to your particular tractor but if all of these appear to be Super C items and your serial number appears to be a Super C then that is most likely what you have. Look at the links at the left column and you will find a place to check your serial number. Also you can do a google search for Nebraska Tests and you shold find a site that gives specific info for your model of tractor and every other tractor ever made. Enjoy your "new" Farmall. Dave...

I say it's a Farmall C made in 1948 according to Updike's serial # book. I have a '49 C and the serial # is preceeded by FC, if it were a Super C it would be preceeded by SC. Does it have disk or band brakes? All the Super's had disk brakes, C's had band brakes. Super's have a water pump, C's have thermo-syphon cooling.

The C and Super C's were all FC prefix on the serial # tag unlike H's & M's. You also will find some late C's with a water pump. Jake

It's a C or super C, have to know the serial # to be positive. The F is for Farmall, C is the model and the serial # will tell super or not. Jake
