Hello I'm installing a remanufactured motor in a farmall c for a neighbor farmer. Just wondering if theres any special tricks or marks to align the governor drive and mag. drive gear unit. the gear and governor goes in then the mag. then the governor housing. Just want to make sure everythings lined up good and to produce the best power. How do you check timing after its running. I would imagne that you could it the mag 180' off. thanks for all the help in advance. take care happy new year

Your timing gear single punch mark is aligned with the single punch mark on the crankshaft gear.

The double punch marks on the timing gear are aligned with the double punch marks on the governor gear.

When you install the mag on the engine you need No1 piston at TDC on the compression stroke. You need to remove No1 sparkplug and hold your thumb
over the plug hole while someone cranks the engine slowly until you feel compression against
your thumb. Then look for your timing mark on the flywheel. Slowly keep rotating the engine until your timing mark is aligned with the indicator. Turn the rotor to No1 position in the mag and install on your engine. Hal
PS: Make sure you feel that compression against your thumb, very important so you're on the compression stroke.

Post back if you need more help. You can set the timing with a timing light once you get it running. You can power the light from another vehicle if you have to. I use an inductive light
that you just clip the lead over No1 plug wire.

I will surely post back to you if I run into any problems. I have a real nice mac tools inductive timing light that I always use. it always works pretty good. Once its running is there any certain degree of timing to get the most power that you know of? A friend of mine had a super c that he took to pulls and did alot of work to the motor and always ran out of power on the track. He messed around with his timing a little and it doesn't even try to run out of power now. Its been nice talking you. take care talk to you soon. Remember my name T.R.Y. Trent R. Young

What pistons are in the new block? The C's were
113cid when new, but you could boost this to 123cid with 3.125" pistons without any machining to the block.

My old timing light is from Sears and I've had it 30 years or more. Hal
PS: If you had the Super C block you could use 3.250" pistons to get 133cid.
