...where to find a real cork stopper for an old Stanley stainless steel thermos? I have one that I take on the tractor (a question has to be tractor related, doesn't it) when I want some coffee along & also with me when I go hunting. Its been dropped 100's of times & still keeps things hotter or colder longer then a couple of newer ones with those threaded plastic stoppers that I have. This old girl has no internal threads, so I can't use a newer type stopper. The old brittle cork is 2 1/4" in diameter on the bottom, 2 1/2 inches long and about 2 3/8 (maybe it was originally 2 1/2", my calipers read 0.393) inches on the top. Thanks in advance. I agree try a craft store like AC MORE. I think you can access on line specially if you know the size like you do. JON

On the topic of tractors & thermoses, we had a small tractor drive last fall. I took my old trusty thermos with coffee. Got to destination and thermos is awol. Jumped on tractor to compete in the barrel roll & trusty tractor wouldn't shift. Guess what had lodged down in shifting mechanism. Ruined the plastic drinking cup part of thermos, but won the barrel roll competition.

Tried that a bunch of times. No hardware store has them long enough in our part of the world. Thanks for the advice, though. (Another $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

Craft shop usually have cork in various sizes and shapes.

If you can't find cork, go to your local radiator repair shop, they have the rubber plugs which have a T-handle with nut and washer on bottom side. As you tighten it expands rubber to form tight seal...

Hey Doc, the original stoppers for Aladin and Stanley Stainless bottle were rubber with a filp-over type latch that tighten it.

I think I still have a couple of them around in jung drawer somewhere. Even the old glass vacuum bottles used them.

No rubber taste :>)
