Too Much Of A Good Thing???

I am looking at a cub to buy. It is early model like I have been looking for quite awhile. The thing that bothers me is the oil pressure. I know that oil pressure is one of the main things to look for but this pressure seems to good. After running it for awhile there seems to be oil seepage around the valve cover, oil filter cover and oil breather cap and the oil pressure pegs the right side of the gauge. Any info from you cubbers would be appreciated. Is this a common problem with the cubs. Reason I ask is that the last one I looked at was blowing oil out of the oil breather cap.
Thanks, Perk

There is no oil pressure at the breather or the valve cover, the oil only runs past or is splashed around the inside of the engine. So whether those leak or not has nothing to do with oil pressure. The oil filter is under pressure, so I suppose that it could leak from excessive pressure.
I"m not saying that you don"t have an oil pressure problem, just that it"s not causing those leaks. My F-12 has too much pressure too, but I figure that it"s okay- besides it doesn"t get used enough to worry about it. :>(

a couple things come to mind.
Presuure relif vlave stuck.
bad oil pressure gauge.

oil fumes coming form oil filler cap cna be worn rings, or a bat ventilation tube between the air breather and the blokc.

I would check the pressure with a known good gauge. If still high but less than 80psi, I would ignore it. If over 80 the internal bypass might be stuck. (I don't know anything about the location of the bypass, but cub oil pumps are not easy to access. The gaskets may be deteriorated on the places it is leaking. (not a real issue as they are easy to replace. If the breather tube is restricted or plugged it will pressurize the crankcase with blowby gasses, causing leaks at almost every gasket but the head gasket.
Good luck, JimN
