Just bought a Super MD. It has a miss when I switch it over to diesel. Also, has a popping noise out the exhaust that I believe is associated with the miss. I am familiar with diesels but am not much familiar with these old ones. How do I check to see which cylinder is missing? Can I loosen the lines while it is running without hurting anything? Any advice would be appreciated.

The popping noise would indicate that you may have a bad decompression valve, not uncommon on those old diesels.

With the engine running on the diesel side just crack and injector line or open the bleeder on the injector . Causes of a miss on them can be (1)low comperssion on that hole (2) cracked head or cylinder (3) bad cam bushing in the injection pump (4) a burnt starting valve or sticking starting valve. (5) bad injector (6) burnt valveor a valve not working because of a bad or bent push rod or rocker arm bad vavle spring (7) blowen head gskt.
