I was out pushing some snow with the H today and notinced that when it was wide open it would pop once and while. And under a heaver laod it woould hesetate then pop again. I replaced all the plugs wires, cap, points,. I noticed that around the middle of the carb between the two halfs. there was gas coming out in the front and the side. I think that gasket failed. Could this cause it pop, miss??

Thanks for the replys. I give that carb kit a try and Old mentioned about the rotor and condensor. I replaced the rotor but did not do the condnesor. Could that cause this to?

When you replace the cap you should replace the rotor and when you replace the point you should replace the condenser. A bad rotor could cause that problem, or it could be the carb. Popping like that can be to much or to little gas. I'd get a crab kit and fix the gasket problem and also I would replace the rotor and condenser.

You may need open the main jet adjusting screw near the bottom of the carburetor one or 2 turns. Hal
PS: Those valves may need adjusting too. The clearance is less when the gets hot.

The gasket is not at fault, The carb is flooding (this may cause the misfire, but fix this first, then see.) In the bowl of the carb (bottom half) is the float and the needle and seat. It is much like a toilet inlet water control system. the float floats and as it gets higher in the rising fuel, it shuts off the incoming fuel to control the level in the bowl. The needle (Small brass or shiny triangular/square pointed rod at the pivot end of the float) is moved by the float up into the seat (brass screw in part into which the needle slides). As the float goes up the fuel is restricted till it reaches the proper level.

Yours is not! Either the float is sinking (replace it or dry it out and solder it up carefully where it leaks. Or it is rubbing on the float bowl. (bend slightly to clear)
Or the needle and seat are not mating well, or they have foreign garbage in them holding them open. replace and or clean the needle and seat.

Then run and check operation.

Air will make an engine pop so it is coming in around the intake gasket or the carb is sucking air through its gasket. Take your unlit propane torch and blow propane around the gasket with the engine at a high idle, if you can hear the engine smooth out you know you have a leak. Popping can be from too lean a mix in the carb so carb reset may help. The tractor at high rpm could have a valve sticking but unlikely...good luck..Mike in Exeter Ontario

Gas may be sloshing out the carb gasket if part of it is missing even though the float is working well. Mike's got the right idea, but it may be leaking gas and that may not be affecting how it runs.

If it is not sucking air, try opening the main fuel screw a little (1/2 turn at a time). They take more fuel under load than they do without load.
