What is my best course of action, I have 10" crack in the sterring Gear housing in the front of the radiator. Can this be welded ?, or do I bite the bullit and buy a new aftermarket replacement $395 ,or buy a used one. This housing is the one that the radiator bolted to.

There are nearly a quarter of a million Cubs out there. Used parts are easy to find. No sense in spending $400 when a $50 used housing is every bit as good.

That crack is caused by freezing of the coolant. Repairs of that crack are usually successful.

I have a Cub with the same crack. The crack was brazed prior to my purchase. The brazing job is at least 8 years old. It's still holding. I would take the lower radiator housing to a good welding/machine shop and have them fix it.

Keep in mine , i dont have an a definiant answer. I have the same problem on my international AI with the steering housing. my crack isnt as severe. We plan on taking it to a professional iron-cast welder to mend. If that doesnt work. I will look around at the local tractor cemetary in Rocky ford Colorado. usually they have the part off of a junk tractor...wat is bad about our kind of little tractor is if you run into something. the thing hat takes the hit is the steering housing and the steering arm.

Hope a young'n can help
