If farmland has not been tended for last 15 years. Can it still qualify for farm programs under current farm bill if no production history available? My thought was if land had not been in production could sign up for direct payment based on 90% avg. of county yield for four preceding years. Is this right or does there have to be crop history to participate in programs. Gonna put place in beans. Thanks

First of all- contact your county FSA office. They administer the program, not the county agent. Farms which were not signed up at the beginning of the current farm program are not eligible, but they can give you details on gaining eligibility.

Propably have to wait for the new farm bill to get to enrole it ,get a sodbuster from the FSA office in your county and get a crop history started which is 4 years on the old farm bill.Like I say see your Farm service agency for better imformation.

It depends on which program, where you are located, and other particulars. My suggestion is to discuss it with your county extension agent. They are paid by you to be on your side. I'd use them (and do for rational advice here in central MN).
