Do you start up out of gear and with the clutch in?(no offense if you do) My Dad's M locked up on me once because I either was in neutral with the clutch out or in gear with the clutch in, I don't remember, anyway he told me you have to do both on that tractor or it locks up. Maybe that'll help.

Hello, the correct fix is what they said however if that happens again before you get it fixed just put it in 4th gear and grab the rear wheel and rock it if you can. faster than getting bolts out. does not always work.

thanks, Gary r. voigt

L.S.: New starter drive and possibly new ring gear for flywheel. Go right to CaseIH, they have the new clutch type starter drive as opposed to the old bendix type. I suspect they have the best quality ring gear as well, however I will tell you the clutch type drive will work very well on a ring gear worn too badly for a bendix drive.

I did that one 15 years ago and it is still working well, with the old ring gear.
