I have an old, don"t know what year or model PAYLOADER with a Hercules six in it. I recently got it running and besides a little oil smoke it sounds and runs good. Now it seems like the coolant flow has stopped. My question is where is the thermostat located ?? It has a cast gooseneck at the top radiator hose and one at the back of the water pump going into the block. Is the thermostat at the top or bottom of the motor?? THANKS

If this is a Hercules diesel motor, some of them had the thermostat in the upper radiator hose like some ford tractors. If it looks like there's a metal splice tube in the middle of the upper radiator hose, that might be the thermostat.

You can call Kraftpower at 1-800-969-6121 to see if they have info. The loader Division of IH was sold to Dresser and then sold to Midlantic Machinery and they have dealers in PA, DE and here in MD. Here's a website for locating a dealer near you. You will need to change the last two letters to your own home state or for any neighboring states. You will see the md that's for MD. Hal
PS: They should be able to help you.

The thermostat is usually located near the top of the engine so the coolant flows into the radiator at the top and is returned to the engine
at the bottom. There should be a thermostat housing on that engine. Hal
