While working on changing the brake drum seal I mannaged to break the cast iron bearing retainer. are they available from the salvage yards .And I went ahead and removed the operators platform and it looks as if I will need to pull the axle gear. Are there any sites on the web that have an exploded view of the rear end. Thanks Steve

If you are saying you have broken the pinion bearing cage, I think I have a new old stock one that I will sell you reasonable. I have two of them, but I think one is for a Super C. Also, I think the left hand and right hand are different. Part numbers I have are 355981 R11 (I think the super c), and 358058 R11 (may be 358057 R11)which is for the H. the 058 is the RH and the 057 is the LH. Send me an E mail.

Steve,
You can also pull the PTO and remove the cap screw that holds the bull gear on. If you remove the four bolts that hold the bearing retainer and seal on you can slide the axle out enough to move the bull gear back and to the side to take out the bull pinion assembly. There isn't a lot of room, but it can be done.

I once broke a cast Bull pinion assembly by pulling it out without moving the bull gear (DOHHH!!##XX%%). A mistake I will never make again!! My local salvage yard had one, and they should not be hard to find. When you go back together make sure you roller bearings are tight in the cast assembly. If they are not you will have excessive end play. Let us know how you come out and if you have problems, there are a lot of folks on here with a lot more experience than me. Buy a tractor manual first chance you get, I sure should have ;)
Good Luck
Paul

Odd, I was able to use it from the preview screen. I'll include the text to the URL here in case it fails again - it is:

Link

If it still doesn't work, go to www.cleancomputes.com/Cub

and go down to the bottom of the page, under 'Other International Harvester and McCormick-Deering Tractors' and you'll see a link for 'H - HV'. Click on that and you'll get the link for the parts manual with the exploded views.
