need to split my 400 wide front to work on clutch.I&T manual says to secure engine to hoist when seperating. Will splitting stands work, or do you need a overhead hoist? If hoist, where do you hook onto engine? Thanks in advance, Happy New Year, Chris

In addition to the nice metal work below I would add Two shims (or blocks)clamped onto the axles at the front casting to eliminate a possible tip over. Some square tubing and a tab welded on to clamp to would ease my mind.

This works good for the front. Just take 2 lenths of angle iron, cut 2 or 3 inches off the bottom. Weld that into a square at the bottom.
Cut the right size square for the bottom plate. Drill 3/4 inch hole in the center. Weld a 3/4 inch nut over the hole. Thread 3/4 rod into that/ with a 3/4 inch nut welded to the bottom of the rod. Makes it adjustable.
Use a 5 ton jack on the rear to split.
I also used 3/4 rod to keep the halfs aligned to do clutch.

I tried the cherry picker on the front and that turns into a mess. It will pivot on the wheels and get out of alighnment.

Thanks for great pictures and tips, trying to figure out how to save them for future reference.
