When Louisville began building Super M's, Super MD's were included. An L preceding the serial number is the identifier, along with a 6 digit serial number. There were no SMTA's or SMDTA's built at Louisville, however.

In lots of years looking at most ever farmall tractor I came across I have never found a SM diesel begining with a L serial #.Why I don't
think Louieville assembeld any SMD though is the parts books never list any SMD parts under the
Louieville serial numbers.

If a SMD is missing the serial tag is there another way to tell it came from Louisville? Reason I ask is one time I ran across a SMD without the tag but it had some lettering on the platform that I have never seen before.

I have a C (all were built in Louisville) that had an L on most of the castings. I don't know if they did that on the Super M, or if the castings were even made there. It is possible?? that the engine might have a 6 digit serial, as the Louisville SM's had 6 digit chassis serials-- not saying they match. Only a guess.
