I need a recommendation for a good overall book on old Farmall tractors. I collected John Deere stuff until about 10 years ago when we moved closer to town and I gave it up. Now we purchased an old 1920 farm near where my wife grew up (NE WA state), and here I go again. But I don't want to try to get back in green tractors. I think red will do this time and I liked the 485 CaseIH I had until we moved.

What is a good Farmall book that deals with the earlier stuff? I need to learn what is old enough to be interesting but not old enough to be top dollar. Thanks, Dennis

Our, "new," place is between Ritzville and Odessa, E. WA. One of us is usually there but we are tying up last business in NorthWEST Washington over the remaining winter months. Tractor acquisitions will be next Spring/Summer, and I will have to get some kind of working loader tractor over there too. Instead of going back to collecting John Deere again, ($$$ now), I think I will get a, "red," one. I wouldn"t mind a wide Model M...should be less money than the rare ones. Dennis

I dont think theres one particualr book you can buy that will cover eveything, but the one Cowman has pictured is pretty good. Just about anything by Guy Fay is worth the read. I like the archive books that pop up from time to time with pics of them doing what they do, farm. Would also suggest subscribing to Red Power Mag.

It's hard to get bad books. Just buy what you like. third party image
