All the castings have a casting code on them. There are 2 numbers and then a letter. The first number is the day the second is the month and the letter stand for the year. For example 6-23-J would be June 23, 1940.

Look on the engine, I believe behind the mag/distributor. There shoudl be numbers stamped there. That will be your serial number if ti has the original engine. Then you can look in the serial number list on the links on the left of this page.

I know my 47 has the D/M/Y stamped in all the castings on it from front to back , trouble is I think that this was only done in 47 . Otherwise the rear sections will have casting #'s that look like date codes ending with a letter . Post as many casting codes as you can find and someone on here should be able to get you in the ballpark . Good luck
