Where is the first place (or only) to look if the front end shimmies at high speed. Wheel bearings are tight.

Previous posters pretty well covered it. Take the hood off, yank around on the front section of the steering shaft to check for slop. Take it for a drive and watch that portion of the shaft. If it moves, try to determine which WAY it moves. Forward-back motion will mean different wear than oscillating rotary motion.

If the universal and adjacent bushing are tight, then the little ball bearing at the very front of the steering shaft (behind cast nut on the top of the front bolster) is a good suspect.

Yank on every part of the steering linkage you can reach. If it can wiggle, it will wobble.

A general answer would be any moving part. However, I suggest that you verify that the wheels are tight and true; the universal joint above the motor is a place where any slack is too much; the gearbox in front of the rad might have bearings to be replaced; the same gearbox may permit reversing the sector gear; there is supposed to be a wedge betweeen the front wheel pedestral and the bolster, check if there is one and that it is correctly installed, has marking as to which way is front; the bearings in the bolster -any slack is too much; also be sure to have matched tires and proper pressure. These are some ideas that come to mind. I am certain that other more scholared people will add other points to check. Q
