Hi there! I took my gas tank off of my FarmAll H and emptied out the old gas that was in there and I was wondering if there was some way to clean out the rusty sediment that coats the inside of the tank? Thank you for your comments

Glasse beaded inside and coated with Ameron 400 epoxy.

All comments will work. I've used plain ole vinegar to clean some knarly rusted tanks, remove the alloy glass bowl holder first and plug. Fill up and let her sit for 3-4 days, empty and pour on some brush/weeds. Saw some vinegar today at wally world for .99 cents a gallon. Expect some pin holes afterwards, try a sealer. Also, a radiator shop could 'cook' it for you.

This topic is possibly one of the most talked about on this site. I keep saying the electrolysis technique. I have not heard if anyone has tried it yet on a tank. Seems like a perfect solution to me. It would get it like new without having to work at it.

As for a job for the kids? Most of these tractors have 15+ gallon tanks. A bit bigger than most kids can handle, in my opinion. Some have suggested strap it on a tractor wheel, jack it up, and let it run all day.

Brian, if you do a search on Case and Allis forum, I posted about using electrolysis to clean rust from inside gas tank. Works really well, I am going to use it on the boy's SC soon as the weather breaks.

a hand full of small washed rock and a steam cleaner stuck in the neck of the tank works great. the pressure washer agitates the loose rock around in the tank and breaks al the rust loose.

I've never done a tractor tank, but LOTS of stationary engine tanks. First use carburetor cleaner to remove any old stale gas deposits. Drain. Next, pour several handfuls of sharp pea gravel or small machine nuts in and roll them around and around with a swishing action (good job for kids). Rinse out with water and air dry. Plug or tape any openings (be sure any threads are covered) then pour in gas tank sealer. Any small pinholes can be taped on the outside with duct tape, then removed afterwards. I use POR-15..good product and PERMANENT. It's about $13.00/pint, but it will coat the tank with a tough, fuel proof layer that will never rust again.

Although I've never used it, I know a couple of guys who swear by that POR-15. Must be good stuff.
