Does anyone know why on this site when I type an apostrophe(sp?) I get a quote mark. Let"s or isn"t. Is it them or me?

I've (I apostrophe v e) brought that to Kim's attention in the past and received no response.

Didn"t expect that much response. I am using a Compaq Notebook with 98se and not touching the shift key. Maybe it works ok with XP. It doesn"t do it when I paste text only when type directly. Oh well, nuff about that.

Nope, it"s something in Kim"s software - Many times I am absoultely sure I"ve sent apostraphies and had them come back as quote marks.

Just for the record to those who think we"re typing wrong, the apostophe shows up correctly when we type it in, but it turns into a quote mark after we submit the reply. It"s strange the way some of us have the problem and others don"t.

Mine has always done that too! I have two new laptops (Dell and a Mac) and they both do it. I try not to get to grammar sensitive on the forum though.

It's enough to make you mad though!

Happy New Year!

A lot of keyboards use a sponge rubber type material under the keys rather than a spring to return it to original position. It gets worn out fairly rapidly and you can get the " effect. Only thing to correct it is to buy a new keyboard. Sometimes an old time typist will hit the keys pretty hard as in using an old typewriter. This will damage the sponge rubber pretty fast too.

Dellbertt, do you have a Mac computer? I do and it"s been doing that forever, or at least since last spring. I just assumed that it was the reason.

Hi Tractor guy from Japan!
I finally got the farm work wrapped up for the year, finished putting equipment away on Christmas eve. I"m always the last one around here to get stuff done- I"m always behind. Now I"ve got about 6 months of fixing to do before spring! LOL!
I"m going to try to post a pic or two of my Magnum engine project on the forum, so check that out to see why I never have enough time!
How"s the fuel biz? It"s gotten so cheap now that it"s hardly worth delivering, right?

I know my key's stick sometimes . And my machine will repeat 3 letter words like " the " fairly often . At first I thought it was my typing but it wasn't in most cases . I got what I paid for - a 10 dollar keyboard on a 7 year old computer . Oh well ...Randy

Same thing happens when you type ' instead of feet. Noticed many comments about a machine so many ' wide, shows up as inches instead of feet.

Couldn"t be my typing. Might"ve hit shift key but didn"t. If it"s my machine, wonder what"s causing it.
