I am considering buying a 300 utility that has loose steering. There is about a half a turn on the steering wheel, maybe more before wheels turn. No ps on this one and wondering what it could be. Easy fix, or tuck and run?

The IT book gives a good discription on making adjustment. Also don"t forget to check everything from wheel to steering box. Spindle bearings, grease.

One note, when you turn the wheel if the pitman arms turn with the wheel the proplem is more than likely in linkage.(hold the pitman with one hand and turn steering wheel with other.)Half a turn of play would be a lot of bad linkage.

You might luck out and it has never been adjusted.

The steering is a big problem with the 300 and 350 utility. The cam assembly gets pretty chewed up and you can't get the part anymore. The cam assembly has a pin on it and it runs in the worm gear of the cam assembly.Water intrusion into the box has a habit of getting in the oil and the expansion plug gets loose and all the oil goes out.Check the oil level on the steering housing. There is two adjustment screws on the side where you can adjust the play of the worm to pin.(teeth ,if there not missing)But like I said, more than likely chewed up.Hey it's just had a birthday and it's half a century old. There is some salvage yards.Maybe get a replacement,$ Just the achilles on the utility. If your good wih tools and have the time to do it.The seals and gaskets and expansion plug are still available @ case/IH.
