What is the difference between a M head and a super M head. Would putting a super M head on a M get any increase in horsepower without changing anything else. Are 400 and 450 heads different from a super M head?

IH used several different heads on those tractors
depending on fuel and year produced.Having said that most M and SM that were original gasoline used head 8060-D? or 8574-D? basicly the same head. Most gasoline 400 and 450 used head # 362174 R1.I put question mark after the D because you will find heads that end in D, DA, DB, ETC.Think one M and SM head advanced to DC and and other to DD but can't remember which # 8060 or 8574.

ok, without looking up the numbers, so someone can add in their 2 cents. they made or put 2or 3 heads on a super a 8060 was on some supers, but is not the head your looking for.a 450 gas or lp head if ya got some cash is what your looking..Gas 450 heads are about half the price of a lp head and will do what ya want it too, esp if you put firecrater or other domes in it. the head off a 400 will be a good cheap alternative upgrade to the 8060 head.8550 or something like that, just mill her down alittle.
