Here is the website with numerous pics of my Dad's 1944 M that we brought home from Mt. Etna, Indiana, last week... Can't wait for some shows and swapmeets...

Beautiful. in reply to PurdueAg, 12-27-2005 18:38:30
I am envious; wish I had one. I couldn't drive my Dad's 1951 M until I got big enough when I was around 12. The John Deere B was a lot easier, I started driving it at 7.

My dad started driving an M at the age of 13 when he worked for a local farmer. I guess that's why he decided to tackle an M for his first restoration. Between the two of us, we are getting close to having one of each of the letter series tractors. Only a couple to go (excluding all the supers / variations, etc.).

Thanks. I didn't know that. My 1942 H has the same number on the block as the chassis, so I just assumed they all did. Good to now know that it's likely still original to the tractor.

Tony...great photos of the M. I like to shoot these old tractors the same way--from lots of angles. You know, for someone who thinks this beauty is nothing but a rusty pile of junk, your mom does a wonderful job photographing it.

Thanks for your reply the other day about your home near Hillsdale. (I have a good friend who lives in Canton, near Detroit.)

Our trip to Indiana went fine. It was near 40 and drizzly when we drove down, but dry on the way back. Oh, and we tried something different. We left Connersville at 2:00 AM Wisconsin time. Zipped through Indianapolis and Chicago both in record time. That's THE time to travel.

We'll look forward to watching progress on the M. David

David,

Glad your trip through God's Country (Indiana) went well . Speaking of travelling at 2 am: when I travel south to Florida, that's about the time I try to schedule Atlanta. It's beautiful and mostly traffic-free at that hour. I'd hate to get caught there during rush hour, though.

Yeah, the M is starting to grow on my mom. I told her to take lots of "before" pictures. You only have one chance! She has a hard time seeing the potential in that tractor. When my dad and I look at it, we see a shiny red beauty that purrs like a kitten. She still sees a rust bucket and thinks we spent too much. Comments on the forum to the contrary have helped my Dad get out of hot water a bit, though. :)

Nice old M. My Grandpa had an M when I was growing up, I would still like to have one I just don't have much use for one. Will be nice to see your pictures during restoration.

I'd say you did real good. Appears to be all original and is not hiding any sins. I would much rather find one in that condition than with an amateur restoration.

Thanks. That's exactly what we were thinking. We didn't even care if it ran or not or was stuck. Main thing was to get a complete one that hadn't been fooled with too much...
