I just bought an IH 414 tractor with diesel engine ,plus it has hyd pump running off engine, which goes to a lever/valve set up & on to 2 rear cylinders.Tractor runs well, but I can't get linkage hydraulics to raise up.
Oil was low when I purchased,so I filled it...but linkage still won't raise.
I have very little experience with ag tractor hydraulics....any advice/opinions appreciated.
Thanks.

Jim, if you added 48 liters, you are filling the transmission case. The hydraulic oil sits in the section that the rockshaft is in, all of it is above the transmission. The hydraulics hold about 8-10 quarts (US measurements). Check the hydraulic oil by removing the plug on the top right rear of the housing. There is a tube in the opening. fill to the bottom of the tube.

Jim, I can't help you with the model of your tractor. I am familiar with the hydraulics on the tractor since I have a 354 with the same hydraulics. I have an IH Blue Ribbon Service manual on the hydraulics for your tractor. I used it to go through and re seal my unit. My email is open if I can answer any questions.

Thanks guys.I'll give some more details after spending some time today looking over the old girl..I got some numbers on 2 damaged ID plates near engine :444D C500008A00 1571 N002311.
May be a 444 model, but the hyd set up appears as you described.
For some reason, the R/H control lever has been removed, but I put a wrench on it....the link arms wont lift. The splined shaft (for link arms) under the seat appears to move side to side a little.I wonder if it's loose, or not engaging OK.
The tractor may have had a loader ,as it has subframe & twin levers/valves on L/H side. They are connected to 2 short cylinders at rear,& the engine hyd pump runs to levers/valves also.(& feeds from sump under driver seat).
None of the hyd functions appear to work at present...just wondering how high the oil needs to be to get picked up.I drained & added 48 litres.
Tractor starts/runs well, but no hyd power??
Thanks..Jim (Australia).

Jim in OZ, JB2has the answer, I checked my B250 manual, (very similair tractors) the larger round headed valve is the flow control valve, the small valve with the oblong handle is the isolation valve for the rear hydraulics. It should be open for 3 point hitch operation. There may be another valve at the front under the dash with an oblong handle Identical to the rear isolation valve , especially if the tractor had a loader at one time, it of course should be closed. If you have loader cylinders on the front , then you would close the rear and open the front. When done with the loader you would raise it , shut off the front valve and open the rear to activate the 3 point hitch...good luck, let us know if it is just hydraulic valve adjustments...Mike in Exeter Ontario

Hi Jim, there is a control valve at the front of the seat that controls the hydraulic oil flow to the 3pt hitch system(open) or to a remote outlet at the rear of the tractor(closed). The control valve is at your right hand when you sit on the seat. The other control valve at your left hand controls the flow rate of the hydraulic oil, pushed in and turned 1/4 is 2.5 gal/min and out is 5 gal/min.

I have a B414 Operator's Manual, let me know if you want some pages scanned and emailed to you.

Hope this helps.
