I am looking at a 300 utility here in Wisconsin. It has 3pt, pto, live hyd, no ps, ta works and is in real good shape with new tires all the way around. Hes asking 1800. Has a little miss, does not smoke, gauges work, and leaks oil from under the seat. He is a tractor dealer but not a dealership. He said the leak is from moisture that got in there and when they used the 3pt it blew it out the air release hole. I am a novice and wanting to purchase, he also mentioned that the miss is the timing or needs a tune up. Last of all it has alot of play in the steering and he said there is an adjustment on the teeth inside that needs to be made. Anybody that that can offer some advice it would be appreciated. Thanks

IF it's the mid section leaking it's prob hyd fluid. If it is leaking from what seems to be drain holes one on each side of mid section (underneath) it is prob TA SEAL'S leaking. That area should be dry, it houses the ta clutch.Do not block these drain holes or fluid could back up and ruin clutch. If you wonder how hyd fluid gets from front of tractor to back of tractor on this system? there is a cavity in the mid section casting that allows this to happen.I could be wrong as i'm talking about a 350u.

Terry:

Since the seller says the steering is an easy fix, ask him to make the adjustment (for free) before you buy the tractor. What happens then will tell you something about both the tractor and the seller.

Steering parts for that model are becoming scarce and expensive.

From what your saying the guy could be right on the mark as far as the troubles but he could also be hideing things. The 300U is a good little tractor but most steer hard with out power steering. The price is right in the ball park if not a little low.
