Just got back from IN with an M!

Well, my classic tractor fever is apparently contagious. My dad decided he wanted to get an M to restore, as he used to work one when he was a kid. Well, yesterday we finally found one for him down in central Indiana. Got a complete, running 1944 M with straight sheet metal for $850.00. I think he did pretty good for that price (although my mom doesn't think so -- she just sees it as a "rusty piece of junk"). We had a trailer with 80 inches between the fenders. Only had to turn around one wheel to fit, and we had 4 inches to spare. Took it slow back to his house in Northern Indiana and unloaded it. Just got back to my home in Michigan. I'm so excited for him. Finally we've got a hobby that both of us enjoy. Sure glad he likes red tractors, too. I don't care for the green ones ( I do think that the prairie gold ones and the orange ones are okay, though).

Merry Christmas everybody. My dad sure is having one -- with that M under the tree.

I saw a good, straight M with a dozer balde in front go at auction for $800 last Thursday. It ran good - one owner. All it needed as far as I could see was new hydraulic hoses and a paint job.

I would say you did darn good! On a couple of recent road trips here in Wisconsin, I found two M's for sale: one was a '44 with asking price of $1,500; the other a '47 (with lots of rebuilt components)asking $2,200. So congratulations and Merry Christmas...to you, your dad and mom.

Small world. Susie and I are headed to Connersville, IN, today to spend the holiday with her folks. She grew up in Shelbyville. Where in Michigan are you from?

I am originally from Bristol, Indiana (near Elkhart) in the northern part of the state. I lived in West Lafayette when I went to school at Purdue and later worked for the botany dept. at Purdue. I now live in southern Michigan, near the town of Hillsdale.

Merry Christmas and have a safe trip. It's supposed to be in the low 40's down there, so you should have good roads.

Tony

The mom with the husband and the rust bucket hopes it's worth the money. Doesn't look like much to me but if Tony could fix his basket cases up I guess there is hope for this one.

Merry Christmas to all
