Hey!
I have a problem with my Farmall Super Cub. It doesn't really start. It only cough when I clog the air arrival, with the starter on. So, It has so much of air, but where is the problem ? The carburetor? (it is a solex carburetor)
But, after having remake the motor (cylinder head), I had to put the starter on for a good running.

I dont understand!

Thank you for answer.

You might try replacing the spark plugs. As they will get soaked with fuel , and not work.

You need three things to make an engine start. Fuel, air and spark at the right time. You need to make sure fuel is flowing to the carburetor. You should hold your hand over the throat of the carburetor, use a glove on your hand. You should feel suction against your hand. This is the vacuum in the intake manifold. This is required to pull the atomized fuel into the combustion chamber. If you have fuel and a vacuum it should start, unless you do not have fire at your sparkplugs. If this tractor has battery ignition you need to check for battery voltage at your coil if you do not have fire at the plugs.
Pull one your plug wires and hold it within 1/4 inch of a good ground on your tractor. Should have a good hot spark. Has the distributor been removed from the tractor recently? Hal

I always thought it took four things for any engine to run. What about compression.
Air, fuel, compression, spark.

I am not an expert but it seems to me you have to check ANY place that it could be sucking air. Like between carb and manifold, manifold and head. could be a crack in the manifold. Also the idle adjustment, the float adjustment. Valve adjustment. Did you take the gas line off and make sure it is running from tank properly. You may have junk in the gas. Do you have a screen on the top of the sediment bowl. You will get lots of advice better than mine. good luck
