Hydro Question

Hey Fellas,

I should probably follow my own advice when I tell people that if ya don't know what you are doing, just stay the he!! out of there! :>)

But, since I'm somewhat reasonably wrench proficient and totally bull-headed, if I can find this irritating little problem without the tractor having to make another trip to town, it sure would be nice.

Anyway, I had a cooler leak and lost about 10 gallons of hydro fluid. So, before I fill 'er back up again, I'd like to pull this cover plate and see if I can find anything obviously wrong in there.

Can I access that forward pressure relief valve thru this cover or do I have to come up thru the bottom?

Thanks for your help,

Allan

Hi Allan, wath's your problem? Wath's the tractor? Seem doesn't go forward? You have access to the forward relief valve by this cover and to the drive control plate too. It have a large plug over this cover, to access the shuttle valve, It have a spring under the cap, may be it's broken or the cap is loose or the pipe that go to the relief valve have a leak. I have seen once. You can plug the two small pipe( fitting side) and run the tractor, be carefull, you can't stop the tractor with the foot pedal, just the F and R lever. If the tractor is OK, the trouble is in the drive control valve, if not, it's in the transmission. Bernard le mécano Québec Canada

Allan, the only comment I will make is don't believe everything you read in those I&T manuals. I'm not implying that the info is incorrect, just sometimes it is not complete.

Go for it, the worst that can happen is you will find nothing in there and have to buy a new gasket to put it all back together. How ya gonna know if ya don't take a peek?

Post a picture when you get it off. I"m curious to know how tightly packed the goodies are behind that cover. Sometimes it seems like all you see behind a cover like that is another wall of steel. At the very least I"d imagine that you"d have to have hands the size of a Barbie doll"s to actually get anything done in there.

Here again,

The darned manual says that everything in the ol' heifer can be accessed from the outside except the charge pump, the hydro pump and the motor.

My pee brain is tellin' me that those items sure must be okay or it wouldn't pull in reverse the way it does. And again, pee brain says that the problem has got to be a leak in the valving or a line on that forward side.

What the hey, perhaps I'm gettin' ready to make a basket case. :>)

Just read your other post and put on to check the garden tractor board, When I had a hydrolic course as adult in school had the hydros completey apart and from your other post I think aside from leaks all your control problems are in that cam as it does not want to move it corectly and is moving it farther in direction for reverce than in direction for forward
